Top 5 Beauty Tips

Remember that some fat is good.

As there is something of a cultural epidemic of fat-shaming (and thin-shaming, though arguably to a lesser degree), I want to put it out there that fat is good and normal and beautiful. If you don’t ever see curvy or bigger people (or even ‘average weight’ people) celebrated in the beauty pages, I recommend finding different beauty pages. The idea that only thin people (or only white people, only people under 30, only able-bodied people, only cis-gender people) are beautiful or fashionable is toxic and incorrect.
My weight used to yo-yo when I was modelling (hello, unhappiness/pressure to be thin), and looking back, and even looking at myself now, I feel I actually look better than when I was pressured to be underweight for my body type.
When I wasn’t forcing myself to be smaller I felt better (point 1 in this blog), I was in better health, which is better long term (point 2) but I now also realise that the fat on my body was part of what made me look better, too. It was more flattering on me. My body knew what the right balance was, but I didn’t listen, and pressure from some toxic boyfriends and modelling agencies didn’t help. The right balance for you is going to be different, but please don’t assume that thinner is better, or more beautiful. It isn’t true.
As a rule, getting healthier is always going to make you look better, and that isn’t something you can weigh.

Double Your Hair Volume Instantly

We learned this root-boosting dry shampoo trick from M Squared Studio stylist Chris Megia. After applying dry shampoo to day-old (or for us, three-day-old) hair, blow dry the roots using a round brush. The mix of the dry shampoo and the natural oil will have the same benefits as a volumizer, translating to major volume.

Get Curly, Unreal-looking Lashes

Use a waterproof mascara first, then apply a volumizing mascara
Volumizing mascara formulas, lash plumping though they may be, can also weigh down your lashes and take out the curl. Celebrity makeup artist Taylor Babaian says her formula for the best lashes involves doubling up on the mascara. "Use a waterproof, lengthening formula first -- it will hold the curl up," Babian says. "Then add a coat of volumizing mascara on top."

Wash Your Face Even if You're Tired!

Looking for a little more shine in your hair? Simply mix one egg and a mashed up banana. Apply it as a thick paste to your hair and leave it on for 10 – 30 minutes. Wash it our doing your usual hair washing ritual (if you usually use a store-bought conditioner you’ll probably only need to condition the ends). And voila! Super simple, and all natural, beauty tip.

Give your skin some daily TLC

Skin is very delicate, especially on your face. Think about it; our faces battle a lot every day, whether it be harsh winds, harmful rays from the sun or pollution. Before you hit the sheets, be sure to spend time on cleansing your skin and ridding it of all the dirt and gunk that can get caught up in your pores. Emily Schmidt, a freshman at Stanford University, offers up her tips on keeping her skin feeling fresh and clean by the AM.
